The romantic comedy No Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman was like going through a two hour detention in high school starring at a wall. Can I say BORING? The film, which was directed by Ian Reitman, is based on a friendship with “no strings attached” between two childhood friends. As life separates them several times within the course of their lives, the two always find themselves meeting each other in random circumstances.
After each encounter, the two friends begin to reconnect and use each other for sexual pleasure. Since their last encounter, Adam (Kutcher) begins to fall in love with (Emma) Portman but his desire to be her lover doesn’t go as planned. Emma refuses to get serious with him because of fear of getting hurt and losing the benefit of just sex with no obligations.
While she doesn’t allow the relationship to go any deeper, Adam walks away and finds another prospect. Months later she realizes that her insecurities have only prevented her from being happy and at the end she his heart. Although it didn’t come as easy as she had hoped, the two live happily ever after.
Even though the storyline seems quite intriguing and hopeful to the typical lovers, the movie seemes like an over-fabricated fantasy that has been duplicated many times before since the beginning of time. With a little bit of a Notebook feel, the movie does have potential to bring one closer to his or her mate but guys BEWARE! If your girlfriend makes you see this film stash a few drinks in your bag because you don’t know what torture is until you see this! I give this film 1 star out of 4.
